Referrals Manafer and Assistant Psychologist
I’ve been working for React since September 2018, after finishing my Psychology degree. I first joined as a Support Worker, working part-time while doing a master’s in Abnormal and Clinical Psychology. After completing the course, I then moved to working full-time for React. I was mainly based at Cadoc House (Stage 1 and 2), but also did shifts in all the other services and progressed to the position of Senior Support Worker. I began working as an Assistant Psychologist in January 2020 and have been doing this full-time since July 2020.
My role as Assistant Psychologist involves working with individuals, support staff and the wider team. I have regular 1:1 sessions with a number of our individuals, helping them build their skills in areas including emotion regulation, distress tolerance and mindfulness, as well as working on other issues which may be important to them, such as their alcohol use. I contribute to our in-house Individual Care Reviews, which involve members of the React Clinical Team and care home staff. I attend Reflective Practice sessions, which provide staff with a regular opportunity to discuss any thoughts or concerns they have relating to their role. I also deliver staff training on DBT skills, keyworking and our company induction.
Since September 2021, I have also held the position of Referrals Manager at React. I am responsible for co-ordinating the processes which bring new individuals into our services and help ensure their placement with us is successful. This includes completing assessments with prospective individuals, writing care plans and risk assessments, and communicating with external teams.
The positions I’ve had at React have enabled me to make use of the knowledge I gained in my undergraduate and master’s degrees in Psychology, as well as the qualification in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy skills training which I gained while with React. I am supervised by Bethan Cunnane, who is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and React’s Clinical Lead.
